Pavielle Bookman 0:00

The very first thing that we start with whenever I'm trying to help someone uncover their purpose is to let them know that purpose isn't something that you find, right? It's not outside of you. So it isn't is something that you go looking for someplace else. I know some people are like, "Oh, I need to take this trip to this faraway country so I can find myself and find my purpose." And well, that's not really how this works. You can take this trip, you know, but that shouldn't be where you start. So I would encourage anyone on the journey to uncovering are discovering the purpose that's already within them to first go to the source and the source of our purpose is God. So God talks about in the Bible, how, before we had a personality, before we had parents, and quite honestly, before this earth was even created, we had a purpose.

Pavielle Bookman 2:55

Hey, I am so happy to be here.

Acquania Escarne 2:57

Yay. We've been trying to get this together for a minute. So this is super exciting. First, I want to say Happy New Year everyone. This is going to be a conversation that hopefully inspires you to find your purpose in 2021. So I had to have you on the show because I listened to the first episodes of your podcast and I was blown away. I was really inspired to reevaluate, am I fully living in my purpose? And then I definitely said,"let's have you in the new year. So we can talk about that and inspire people in 2021."

Pavielle Bookman 3:30

For sure.

Acquania Escarne 3:31

Awesome. So we did talk about your background a little bit. But is there anything else you want our listeners to know about you?

Pavielle Bookman 3:38

A really chill introvert. So the fact that I even host a podcast is really bizarre to me, because I would just prefer to be in my little show just chillin. So yeah, I just want your listeners to know, first of all, I'm an introvert. So don't think that that should stop you from doing anything. And then too, I'm just someone who is just really passionate about talking about purpose, and then helping people to move past whatever blocks that they may be experiencing as they operate in their purpose.

Acquania Escarne 4:09

I really like that. And I want to know, what inspired you to create a podcast focused on something that is very important, but a lot of people ignore or don't even attempt to find, which is their purpose. How were you inspired to create something like that?

Pavielle Bookman 4:26

First, God told me to help his people with their purpose, and kind of told me in multiple ways, some point I was like, "Okay, Okay. I get it, I get it.This is what I'm supposed to be doing." So what happened is I tried to figure out a way that I can do that, that makes sense for my personality. And then I did some research and the three best ways to communicate and teach people these days are through blogs, and then through podcasting, or YouTube videos. And even though I'm a lawyer, and I'm a trial lawyer, which requires me to do more speaking, I'm a much better written communicator. So my natural inclination was to go to doing the blog. But I thought about who would be listening. I mean, well not listening, but who would be consuming this kind of content. And I thought about my friends, because a lot of them want this content from me, and I thought about the fact that they're busy, and some of them are moms. And they may not have the time to dive into a blog every week. But they for sure can just pop some earbuds into their ear as they're working out at the gym, or washing dishes and listen to a podcast. And so I thought, okay, podcasts for sure. Because I'm not the most comfortable doing video content. So I was just like, "maybe one day." But that's how I ended up doing a podcast.

Acquania Escarne 5:46

I think that's awesome. And I like the fact that you highlighted- you thought about your audience first, and how they could best consume the content that you're out here trying to create. So many content creators don't think about that. They always think about themselves, and what would be easier for them to do, but they're never always thinking about their audience. So thanks for mentioning that quick tip. Anyone out there who wants to start a podcast in 2021? Let that be where your thinking begins. So I want to get into some concrete tips. What are some ways that you helped people find their purpose or exercises that you think we should do to help us find our purpose on our own?

Pavielle Bookman 6:25

I'm so happy you phrased the question that way, for two reasons. So first, the very first thing that we start with whenever I'm trying to help someone uncover their purpose is to let them know that purpose isn't something that you find, right? It's not outside of you. So it isn't, is something that you go looking for someplace else. I know, some people are like, "Oh, I need to take this trip to this faraway country, so I can find myself and find my purpose." And well, that's not really how this works. You can take this trip, you know, but that shouldn't be where you start. So I would encourage anyone on the journey to uncovering or discovering the purpose that's already within them to first go to the source, and the source of our purpose is God. So God talks about in the Bible, how, before we had a personality, before we had parents, and quite honestly, before this earth was even created, we had a purpose. God has identified us, selected us, put us aside, and given each of us have purpose as into how we're supposed to make an impact in this world. So the first place we have to start is from our source or creator. And we have to get still figure out how God speaks to you. God speaks to us in different ways. For some people, he speaks to us in our dreams at night. If you're like Joseph, for some people, he speaks to us through His Word, and through confirmation of other people. So figure out how God speaks to you and learn to attune yourself to hear the voice of God and whatever method that he speaks to you. But you by all means you have to start, you have to start there. And then you also asked me about exercises, which is really what this is all about. Because there's no step by step method. There's no one stop shop, it's not something that's just gonna come at you. It's really something that you have to pay attention to and be conscious about exploring. So an exercise I would say, which is really simple, but it isn't easy for a lot of people, which is to first get a very dedicated prayer and devotional life. Simple. It's not anything complex. It's not rocket science. But it makes a difference. It really makes a difference. So I would recommend a starting place, do something consistently. If you want specifics, I would say maybe start with reading your Bible for 20 minutes, just three days a week, and then spend time praying for about 10 minutes after you read your Bible. And then this is where a lot of people skip, because they don't necessarily think listening is an exercise. They think of it as like a an activity like you know, I'm listening. But the key is, you need to listen for what God has to say in response to your prayers. It's a conversation.

Acquania Escarne 9:12

Great tips. I love that. I hope you guys understood that you can start small. So you said reading your Bible three times a week, 20 minutes a day. That doesn't mean you always have to read only for 20 minutes, but it's a great way to start. And then you could definitely do more if you want to. And as you get better at listening and diving in. So I love those tips. I think I could definitely use more conscious routine even in my day. I like to do my morning prayer and meditation in the morning. But I've noticed that sometimes I'm rushing or I'm not giving it that silent, dedicated time. So I get through the verses and the reading and then I'm like, "Okay, I'm done. Bye God!" And that's not that's not always the best way because you might miss the response. So I like how you phrase it, it's a communication, it's a conversation and you should listen for the response. So thank you so much for that. And I think that's also kind of led me to where I was thinking on my next question about staying committed to that routine and walking down that purpose. So what would you say someone decides in a new year? "Okay, I'm going to do what Pavielle says, I'm going to do my three times a week, I'm going to read maybe I'll even go up to five or six." How does someone get back on track and keep that routine? If maybe after January they're like,"Oh, that was fun. But what do I do now?"

Teri Ijeoma is back at it again. First, she created a highly successful trading course to help you make $1,000 a day. And now she's created a virtual conference to teach you more about trading on January 23rd, from 10am to 6pm, Central Standard Time, she is hosting Master the Trade, a conference that teaches you how to master your money and your mindset for investing in 2021. For more information, check out thePurposeofMoney.com/trade. Once again, that's thePurposeofMoney.com/trade.

Pavielle Bookman 11:15

Okay, first, you have to set yourself up for success. And if you know that your goal is to read your Bible for one hour a day, four times a week, maybe not start there. Because you have to think realistically about what it is you can do right now and sustain over an extended period of time. What personally helps me is I try to be more disciplined and motivated. So I don't rely on motivation to get me through certain tasks, because motivation is fickle. You can be motivated right now. And you're like, "Okay, it's the morning time, I'm motivated, I'm going to have some quiet time at noon, where I just sit and listen, after I pray for a few minutes, and I'm motivated." And then boom, something happens around 11 o'clock, and you're completely thrown off track and your motivation is gone. So that's where discipline comes into play. So you have to be disciplined in your approach. Something that helps me as far as mindset when I'm thinking about staying focused, and staying on the path of consistency is that I think about the fact that obedience is better than sacrifice. So I stay focused by remembering that me operating in my purpose is a form of obedience to God, and that I make a plan. So the best advice that I can ever give for staying focused and staying on track is to make a plan. That is how I set myself up for success.

Acquania Escarne 12:37

Yes, and everyone wants to put out their plans in January, February and March. And I want you to commit to stick to those, if you can even do it earlier than the beginning of the year, like before the year ends, that's a great time to start making plans. And I love those tips. And now I kind of want to dive into your latest venture, outside of being an attorney, you are also the host of the Purpose Collective podcast. And I want to know more about that. What type of topics do you cover? And what can listeners expect when they check you out on all social media platforms?

Pavielle Bookman 13:15

So the way that I describe my podcast is that it's a mix between hood philosophy because I grew up in a rough neighborhood and I learned a lot of life lessons. So the show will naturally have a lot of the lessons that I learned in my upbringing. And the tips will stem from that because they proven to work like I was able to survive an extended period of time living in a rough neighborhood. And I learned a lot of lessons from it. So naturally, that's where my perspective comes from. So the show will have a mix of that, plus personal development, and then Christian principles, because purpose is something that comes from God. So I mean, we can't really have a conversation about purpose, if we're not talking about scripture, if we're not talking about God if we're not talking about faith. And a lot of the things that we talk about really is transferable to every area of your life. Because the things that can prevent us from walking in purpose are the things that can prevent us from being successful in our professional life. So we talk about things like imposter syndrome. The second episode is about fear, because a lot of people are trying to overcome fear. And for me, there's never been something that prevented me from doing anything. But that doesn't mean that I don't have fear. Sometimes I don't feel afraid to do some things like I was kind of lowkey afraid to do the podcast. I'm like, "Oh my gosh, I am such a private person. I have to open myself up to give examples of things for my listeners and expose myself to criticism, critique, and also praise." But that's just something that's outside of my comfort zone that I have to deal with. So we talk about fear because it's a very present struggle for a lot of my listeners. And then we talk about things like visualization, and introducing a practice of meditation and visualizing the life that you want. But yeah, we pretty much dive into all kinds of things to set ourselves up for success and to win because at the end of the day, there's a scripture that says, "Thanks be unto God, who always causes us to triumph." And that's the truth. We were designed to win. So I'm really just trying to give my listeners the tools so that they can win at life.

Acquania Escarne 15:28

Yes, all designed to win. Please quote that, guys, that was awesome. So now, this is different question. But it really plays to my podcast, I asked all my guests this now because the Purpose of Money is the name of the podcast. So I'm always interested to know, what are some of your personal motivations? What is your purpose for money, and what you hope to accomplish?

Pavielle Bookman 15:53

Money for me is definitely a tool. It's a tool for me to sustain my family. And it's a tool for me to expose people. And when I say people, I mean, anyone who got places in my path to expose. So I'm really big on exposure and growing up in a neighborhood where all you do is kind of go to school and go home. And I wasn't really exposed to a lot as a child. And just naturally, I learned so much by my school exposing me to different things, my teachers would expose me to books that weren't in our libraries, like they started to buy books, based on my reading level, which was above their grade level. So exposure is really important to me. So I see money as a tool to expose the less fortunate to things to expose myself to different things. I'm a naturally curious person. And so exposure is very important to me. The purpose of money for me is also to talk about this, but to build generational wealth, because it's very important for me to leave something behind for my family.

Acquania Escarne 16:57

I love that. And you know, one of the things that I noticed right away after listening to the first couple episodes of your podcast is that you are an avid reader, you're constantly mentioning books you've read or quoting authors, or famous people that really fit well with the topics at hand. And then they allow that listener to really let the information resonate, let you kind of ponder on it even after you've listened to it. So one of my favorite episodes is the second one where you talk about facing your fears. And I just love how you're intertwining gospel, you're intertwining literature you've read and it all flows, it's like it's purposely driven that way, right? To help get the message across. So good job on that keep doing what you're doing. I think that's a unique way to communicate with people that not everyone can do. So I really appreciate that. And I want everyone out there to keep supporting everything that you're doing. So Pavielle, can you please before we say goodbye tell all my listeners, how can they find you on all things social media and your podcasts?

Pavielle Bookman 18:05
